MATLOCK ARTISTS SOCIETY The Society was formed in 1989 by three members of the Art class held at Tawney House, the former adult education centre on Matlock Green. They were aware that there was no other Art group in the Matlock area at that time and they decided to see what interest there might be in the formation of one which would be based at Tawney House. The inaugural meeting was held on 10th March, 1989 at which sixteen prospective members were present when it was agreed that the Tawney House Artists Society should be formed. The Society was originally based at Tawney House until 2004. When Tawney house had to close we were fortunate enough to find new premises at All Saints Church Hall in Smedley Street when it was agreed that we should change our name to the Matlock Artists Society. Since that time it has continued to prosper and our membership now has to be limited to 50 in order that out monthly workshops will not be over-subscribed. Portrait Group This is held at All Saints Church Hall on Smedley Street on the first Wednesday in each month from 9.30 am to 12 noon. It is open to all and not restricted to Artist Society members. The cost is £4 for the morning including coffee or tea and biscuits. The aim is to have two models so volunteers to be models would be very welcome..... |
